Baby, lockdown is her whole life. In a truck.
Since our meeting over fifteen years ago when she was exhibited alongside Micha, Bony and Glasha, we have been following Baby.
Since her capture in Kenya when she was barely two years old and the certain massacre of her family, she has been dragged by force from circuses to animal parks. She has been exploited under marquees, at fairs, village festivals, advertisements and television and radio broadcasts, historical re-enactments and even films…
Baby is wise, Baby is well « educated », Baby is as flexible as plasticine … Baby is a circus elephant.
The petition
Baby was captured in 1985 in Kenya where she lived freely with her family, she was two years old. Since then, she has had to perform, under duress, participate in processions and preform show time circus contortions until dizzy, carry her trainer and jailer on her trunk, walk and balance on a painful leg, pose for restless photos with spectators…
But most of her time is spent away from the public eye between the 6 walls of a truck trailer. Baby can barely turn around on herself, which she does painfully all day long, trying to relieve her mind and her limbs.
Her daily life is spent in a truck. The few outings to which she is entitled only take place to serve the purposes of her trainer.
For Baby, a circus elephant, I, along with One Voice, which has highlighted her ordeal, request her immediate placement in sanctuary.

Baby's life in the truck
The space they should have at their disposition should give them freedom to move around and explore, spend time on feeding and drinking for many hours per day. A truck can never fullfill those requirements and the lack of space in a truck may cause mental problems, resulting in stereotypic behaviour when an elephant is kept inside for a prolonged period (which can be as short as 1 hour).
